The Poseidon was originally constructed in approximately 1911 as a cottage on dune line along the beach in Willoughby Spit. Between 2009 and 2012 over a half million dollars was spent to meticulously restore and modernize this historic bay front cottage. It now features a main house that is a family home for the property owner, a carriage house, a court side apartment home, and a beach front apartment home. The beach front rental is currently available
This is the off-season rental of an Airbnb property. Rent includes all furnishing, linens, housewares and all utilities are included . Available Month-to-Month through March 30
This house has seen a great deal of history and has been a part of sea-trade along the Chesapeake Bay since the early 1900's. Not only has this home experienced its share of activity along the bay over the past 103 years but the neighborhood was created by The Great Coastal Hurricane on August 22, 1806. A few blocks from the Poseidon is the spot where President Abraham Lincoln came ashore to plan the Battle of Norfolk during the Civil War. From our front yard we still see commercial and naval ships as well as commercial watermen plying the historic Chesapeake Bay and still hear fog horns from these vessels.
The Beach Front rental is truly magnificent and unique. Our understanding is that this part of the original home was a gathering spot for rowdy commercial sailing captains that moved goods between Norfolk and Baltimore as well as an alleged meeting spot for Rum Runners in the 1920's. It is a 2-bedroom apartment home that contains nearly 1,200 square feet of living space. Features include wood floors throughout, plaster walls/ceilings, recessed ceiling lighting, sailing inspired wall sconces, fireplace, and sauna. Also included is beautiful wood trim and wainscoting created by craftsmen that trimmed ship interiors over a century ago, windows that overlook the beach, walk-in pantry, large open kitchen, dishwasher, microwave oven, and full-size washer/dryer in a large laundry room shared with the Courtyard Rental. Rent is $3000per month through March 30
The Courtyard rental is a 1-bedroom apartment home with 800 square feet. It features a separate entrance from the private landscaped courtyard, large court-yard deck, wood floors throughout, plaster walls, crown molding, breakfast serving bar, built-in microwave oven, dishwasher. There is also a full-size washer/dryer located in a large laundry room that is shared with the Beach Front rental. Rental is $2500 per month
